Privacy
Why Won’t You Sleep runs entirely on your Mac. It collects no analytics, no telemetry, and no usage statistics. Nothing leaves your computer.
When you launch the app or click Refresh, it spawns two short-lived subprocesses — pmset -g assertions and pmset -g — and parses their output to render the Summary and Details tabs. The Activity Monitor button copies a process ID to your clipboard, then opens Activity Monitor; both actions happen locally. The System Settings shortcut links open Apple’s built-in panes via standard URL schemes.
If you click Leave a tip, you’re redirected to Stripe’s hosted checkout page. Stripe collects payment information per Stripe’s own privacy policy.
The whywontyousleep.app website may keep standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested page, user agent) for operational and security purposes. These are not used for analytics, advertising, or any other purpose, and they aren’t shared with anyone. They are typically deleted within 60 days.
Reliability
Why Won’t You Sleep is a diagnostic tool. It reads what pmset reports and translates it; it doesn’t modify anything about how your Mac sleeps. If a process is keeping your Mac awake, you’ll still need to quit that process (or adjust System Settings) yourself.
